This blog holds a very special place in my heart. I know, I know… I say that about every couple I blog (and it’s true). But, this one is extra special because I had the honor of capturing my very own grandparents. I’m such a firm believer in capturing your love in all chapters of your lives, not just when you’re in your 20s. It’s safe to say that my heart was absolutely melting during my grandparents’ diamond anniversary couple’s session.

Anniversary Session

The world my know them as Jeanne and Lee, but I am proud to call them Grandma and Grandpa. My grandparents have been married for 60 years and have been sweethearts since. Like many men at the time, my grandpa was enlisted in the Navy. He was dating my grandmother while traveling around the world – from Vietnam to Thailand. The determination, loyalty, and pure love for one another kept them grounded while they were apart. There’s nothing sweeter than snail mail, am I right?! Countless letters were sent back and forth over seas. Upon the final safe return of my grandfather, the rest is history… They’ve got that Notebook-kinda-love (but with a really happy ending, nothing sad here). 

I couldn’t have asked for a better example of what love should be or how to celebrate it. No matter what chapter you and your lover are in, embrace it. This particular session with my grandparents was no longer than 30 minutes at a local park right next to where they live. With a few prompts here and there, not much was needed to highlight their love. I’m proud to say that the exact words out of their mouths were “that’s the most kissing we’ve done in front of the camera in our entire lives!” 😂 Mission accomplished… I’m here for that messy love. OH! And get this… these were the first photos they’ve had since their wedding day. 

If you leave this blog with nothing but tears in your eyes, please just remember this. Don’t wait until your 60th anniversary to get some updated photos with the love of your life. Commemorate all the little moments in your love story. The vacations, holidays, Tuesdays! Treat your love like the treasure it is. My grandparents’ diamond anniversary couple’s session will forever be the example of just that. Here’s to the little moments in life… may they all be captured!!
