As cheesy as this may sound, Instagram has truly brought me some of the coolest opportunities. Of course, networking within the photography community on the ‘Gram has given me a wealth of invaluable knowledge. But can I let you in on a secret? My favorite part of Instagram – hands down – is when clients reach out because they’ve seen my work floating around! Like, how freaking cool is that?! Caleigh is no exception. When she reached out to book her boho Joshua Tree Maternity Session, it took every bit of me not to ask, “Can you come sooner!?”

Believe it or not, Caleigh and Tim are actually from Nashville, Tennessee! They decided to take a sweet little babymoon before their little bundle of joy arrived. At just around 6 months, Caleigh and Tim decided to hit up some of the beautiful national parks in California. Because Tim is an astrophotographer (photographer of the night sky), they decided to adventure to Joshua Tree National Park for some (excuse the pun) out-of-this-world shots. Before we met up, Caleigh “painted a picture” for me of exactly what she was looking for in their maternity session: not too posed, Earthy, genuine + authentic. Safe to say, this was right up my alley!

Exploring Joshua Tree

While I’m not an expert in Joshua Tree per se, I feel like I might as well be at this point! I couldn’t wait to explore the desert with these two (3). One of my favorite places to shoot is at Cap Rock; the Joshua and juniper trees are such a unique site to see against this towering rock formation. The outfits that Caleigh and Tim had chosen were absolutely perfect against the beige landscape. Caleigh’s first outfit was a beautiful deep brownish-maroon colored dress adorned in tiny flowers. For the second outfit, Caleigh and Tim were both dressed in black which just popped against the desert. They radiated so much love and joy for one another – it was such a captivating energy to be immersed in.

We wrapped up Caleigh and Tim’s boho Joshua Tree maternity session with some film photography. Spoiler alert: I’m obsessed. The sand stands out in such a stunning way with the grain of the camera film. I can’t say it enough – I love what I do. Having the opportunity to travel around Southern California, hanging out with beautiful people, and letting my creativity shine?! What’s not to love!?
